Vineyards
The land
In our family, the cultivation is always considered as a blessing.
Our table is rich and full of products of our own production, oil, olives, wine, vegetables, potatoes, fruits, nuts – depending on the season.
Our fatherís big love is taking care of his land, following the organic crops to enjoy them and fulfill one of our most basic needs during lunchtime.
Our vines: small and scattered.
Back in the old days, our grandparents distributed their property to all their children, resulting to even smaller fields.
Owning already small divided fileds, facing the diversity of the Cretan soil, we meet semi-mountainous, in sloping ground, small areas rather than endless lands such as in other parts of the world.
So, our vineyards are sparsely located and at different altitudes around the area of Patsos.

*But why are the toponyms so important?
“The word toponyms is compound. It comes from the words topos (place) and name. Toponyms are the names that were given by people to different places to distinguish them.
According to the definition Professor Stilponas Kyriakidis gave, when we say toponyms we mean, not only the names of cities, villages and settlements, but, in general, all the names people name every aspect, every part of the homeland: plains, mountains, slopes, rivers, etc. Just as we give a name to each person to distinguish them from the others, so in every place, for the same reason, people give a separate name.
Naming the places, place ourselves in them and therefore, we know our position. It is part of the tradition of a place. Many toponyms give us environmental information such as soil quality, rivers, springs, landslides, hills, depressions, roads, kilns, flora, fauna, crops.”
